Rejected a year ago by Lake County, the bronze statue of Confederate Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith will be relocated to the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee once it leaves the National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol, a state spokesman said. The general, born in St. Augustine to a slave-owning family, will soon be replaced at the Capitol by a sculpted figure of Black educator, stateswoman and civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune.
